Company profile
Shanghai Sunwise Energy Systems Co., Ltd. (Sunwise), established in 2004, is dedicated to becoming a leading Chinese provider of integrated hydrogen system solutions and key equipment, and a developer of the hydrogen supply ecosystem.
The Group has 244 registered employees and 19 external technical experts. Its core team has, on average, more than ten years of experience in hydrogen technology and processes. Of its permanent employees, 64% hold a bachelor's degree or higher. Its technical team includes 37 intermediate and senior engineers and seven professor-level senior engineers.
Over the years, Sunwise has developed core expertise in high-pressure hydrogen handling. Its business spans hydrogen energy, nuclear power and distributed energy. It is also exploring hydrogen production, including EPC projects that use surplus electricity from wind and solar generation.
Sunwise has developed on-board hydrogen supply systems for fuel cell vehicles, integrated 35 MPa and 70 MPa cylinder valves, high-pressure 35 MPa and 70 MPa hydrogen dispensers, mobile hydrogen refueling vehicles and hydrogen boosting and refueling equipment. In 2018, it developed a high-pressure hydrogen cycling test system for Great Wall Motor to meet GTR 13 requirements. In 2020, its independently developed 35 MPa on-board hydrogen cylinder valves and end valves passed type testing. In 2021, its automotive hydrogen cylinder combination valve received EC79/EU406 certification and a type-approval certificate from Germany's Federal Motor Transport Authority (KBA).
Sunwise has designed and built more than 70 hydrogen refueling stations, including Anting, Xinjiang, Tongxin and the Shanghai Chemical Industry Park hydrogen mother station. The latter combines hydrogen refueling, vehicle charging, fuel cell vehicle maintenance and pipeline hydrogen supply. Sunwise has maintained a leading position in on-board hydrogen supply technology and was among the first to supply 70 MPa systems in volume. Its products and services have been adopted by major Chinese fuel cell vehicle and powertrain manufacturers, including SAIC, Sunlong, SAIC Volkswagen, Great Wall Motor, King Long, GAC, Zhongtong, Asiastar, Dongfang Electric, Weichai, Xinyuan, Fengyuan, Foresight, Guohong, and Haima.
Sunwise has led or contributed to 24 hydrogen-related standards at different levels and participated in 35 national, provincial and municipal research projects. It has filed 182 patent and software copyright applications. The project 'Research and Industrial Application of Key Technologies for Fuel Cell Commercial Vehicles' received the Special Prize of the China Communications and Transportation Association Science and Technology Award. Sunwise has also received two first prizes for science and technology, one first prize for technological innovation, and two second prizes from the Ministry of Education and Shanghai Municipality. It was named a Shanghai Science and Technology Little Giant Enterprise in 2020 and was included in the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology's third batch of specialized and innovative Little Giant enterprises in 2021.
Sunwise has been recognized as a national high-tech enterprise for 15 consecutive years. It is a founding council member of the National Hydrogen and Fuel Cell Vehicle Industry Innovation Alliance and a member organization of the National Hydrogen Energy Standardization Technical Committee. It is a qualified supplier to State Nuclear Power Technology Corporation and China National Nuclear Corporation. It is certified to ISO 9001, ISO 45001, ISO 14001 and IATF 16949:2016, and holds the relevant licenses for hazardous chemical operations, automotive hydrogen cylinder filling and installation.
Together with industry partners, Sunwise initiated the Shanghai Engineering Research Center for Hydrogen Energy Utilization. It also operates the China Hydrogen Energy website to support public education and the wider adoption of hydrogen energy.
In October 2020, Shanghai Electric Power, whose controlling shareholder is State Power Investment Corporation (SPIC), its subsidiaries and SPIC's integrated smart energy company invested in Sunwise. In 2021, Sunwise received a strategic investment of nearly RMB 100 million from Sinopec Capital. Sunwise envisages closer, broader cooperation with Sinopec Capital and SPIC in hydrogen refueling, hydrogen supply and integrated hydrogen utilization.
