Turning waste into green hydrogen: Sunwise supports low-carbon fuel development in Hong Kong
An integrated biomethane-to-hydrogen production and refueling demonstration project supported by Sunwise has been established in Hong Kong. Sunwise supplied the rapid hydrogen refueling and filling system and participated throughout design, installation and commissioning, providing technical support for project implementation.

Located at the South East New Territories Landfill, the project converts biogas from biomass into green hydrogen for multiple applications.
Biogas generated by decomposing organic material in the landfill is collected as feedstock. Using steam methane reforming, together with purification, hydrogen production, storage, compression and refueling equipment, the project converts waste into energy.
The project can produce up to 330 kg of green hydrogen per day, enough to meet the daily energy needs of approximately seven to eight hydrogen buses. As an early green hydrogen project and an initial application of the technology in Hong Kong, it offers both practical energy production and a replicable demonstration. Its experience can inform future use of landfill biogas to produce sustainable hydrogen fuel in the region.

Sunwise continues to develop and apply hydrogen technologies, offering customized solutions for by-product hydrogen purification, biogas purification and hydrogen production, integrated water electrolysis and refueling, and solid-state hydrogen storage. These activities support industrial decarbonization and high-quality development while diversifying hydrogen supply and reducing the cost of hydrogen use.
